Linux System Admin Training – Getting Classroom Training From the Linux Distribution Vendor

Many of Linux distribution vendors offer classroom training, however, this is often very pricey and only works well for people that are already very technical – like programmers and technical support people that already have some kind of foundation in Linux. And if a vendor has a “basics” type of course – make sure that it will run on schedule and that you can go at a location near you. Some courses are on the training schedule, but never run!

Also, have a look at the catalog of a vendor to see the courses they offer and be sure to get a look at the training materials to see the content offered.

Do you find their Linux materials readable – or just more highly technical geek-speak that you’ve been trying to get away from?

At least one major Linux distribution (not mentioning any names here – call me ;) won’t even let you see their materials – or even see samples – and this is for a course that you’re paying thousands of dollars for!

What is this vendor afraid of?

Also, try to get to speak to the person that will actually be doing your training – and find out if you can understand what he or she is saying about what the course has to offer?

Using Linux Commands to Do Linux System Administration Tasks and Manage a Linux System – Linux Admin

Linux commands are used to do System Administration tasks on many different types and kinds of Linux “server systems”, such as ftp servers, print servers, web servers, dns servers, email servers and dhcp servers.

Linux commands are also used to manage Linux workstations (a.k.a. desktop systems) that are being used for daily office productivity tasks, like word processing and email.

These desktop systems are more common than many “non-Linux” people realize and they are being used to run common Linux programs, like the free Open Office programs (Calc, Impress, Writer, Draw, Base) and thousands of other common, popular and free “office productivity” software programs. These desktop systems are used by millions of people in offices all over the world!
